Homular interior home and they were super excited to have the extra space to create a separate dining room. so they asked to help them out and design a dramatic space this room hadn't been painted in decades. it was a good size about 12 by 12. a beautiful bay window high ceilings cool crown molding an original medallion. it had a lot going for it just needed a really fresh coat of paint being that this was an old Victorian. the room definitely had some character but the homeowners loved it and wanted to embrace that so after a bit of patching a lot of cleaning i had a paint project that i really wanted to try and i knew this was the perfect space for it.
so idea was to create a giant stripe running from the ceiling to the window to the floor that would just lead your eye right through the room as happy. as i was to see yellow on the walls i knew needed to start fresh it didn't work with furniture were bringing into the room. so i really needed to rethink the palette i was inspired by bear's 2021 trend colors i was attracted to their bold moody hues i would hug the room. at night but i also wanted to add a more cheerful color for daytime so i took inspiration from the trend colors but chose slightly different hues to best match the furniture and art. i was bringing into the room i started with which is a beautiful gray blue and painted the walls the trim and the ceiling scuff defense interior paint and primer and what about that is usually you would paint your trim in a different kind of paint something a bit glossier that's easier to clean and it's more resistant but with this line ultra scuff defense it has the resistance of a gloss and is great for high traffic areas and what's great is it even comes in a flat finish actually comes in four finishes but i chose the flat. so there was an old non-functioning radiator in the room and were not going to take it out. so we painted it blue just like the wall it's against and it looks really charming now if you have working rads you can still paint them it just means that you need to get a special heat resistant paint and i have to say being able to use the same paint from the floor to the ceiling and across. all the trim made it really easy the blue covered the walls beautifully after one coat i even hesitated whether i even needed a second coat it was good for the stripe across the middle of the room.
i chose a color called wild raisin which is a deep burgundy and this isn't your average stripe i wanted to create a really dramatic stripe i went along the ceiling and over the ceiling medallion and then down the entire width of the windows and then back across the floor just like a runner i have to say the floors were worn they're old and refinishing them just wasn't in the budget. so this was the perfect solution to give them a new life for the ceiling and the window trim i used scuff defense the same as i had used with blue walls and for the floor i used porch and patio paint and primer in one the great thing about this paint project is that. it's not fiddly it doesn't require a steady hand it's literally just one big stripe after the first coat was dry i added a second coat to the wild raisin stripe and it looked fantastic and then it was time to decorate.
now this dramatic paint treatment was the perfect backdrop for dramatic decorating i have to say when everything came in it turned out even better than i expected some of the key pieces in here were the glossy oxblood dining table. which was the same color as a floor but a different finish so the glossy on the mat just blended into that burgundy line looked so cool and then some blue black chairs to contrast but still keep that mood going because we have a beautiful bay window. we put a bench because why not extra seating had this beautiful piece of art that fit perfectly in the dining room and worked with the color scheme and across from the painting we added a swan sculpture and this is plush it's super fun and it adds just a little bit of quirky to the room and of course to frame the bay window added a seven foot ficus which is going to be super happy in that corner and on the other side a bust just to bring in that classical just talked about dining table styling for a second now this is probably a space that you're using occasionally to eat or to entertain painting and decorating your rooms for real life is key and a lot of us are working from home more. so use your dining room make it beautiful make it a space you're happy to work in and how is this for a zoom background right you.
